The Great Pretenders performed 3 completely different, fully costumed and choreographed sets
nightly.
For the first set of “oldies” (late 50’s / early 60’s music), the band dressed alike
and performed much like you would have seen The Temptations or Four Tops perform on The Ed Sullivan
Show – in front of a “curtain” with synchronized dance steps.
For the second set, also an oldies set, each member wore a different costume reflective
of the period, and combining comedy and acting skills, would each portray a different
"character”. One member portrayed the “All American athlete”, another, the “class clown”,
another portrayed the quintessential “greaser” – a leather-jacketed “tough guy”, and so forth.
For the third and final set of the evening, the group would come out completely re-invented.
The greased hair was gone. The music moved forward into the ‘60’s, and the set included a
Beatles’ and Motown segment.
